Welcome to the Mid-South Woodturners web site!
The Mid-South Woodturner's Guild is a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). The AAW is an international, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the woodturning craft. Our mission is to provide information, education, a meeting place, and an effective organization for all who are interested in turning wood.
We encourage everyone to wander through our website. Our activities calendar will let you know when and where we meet, as well as what we have planned. The members gallery shows just what can be done with right tools and a little ingenuity.

What is Woodturning?
Wood turning is a technique by which objects are created on a lathe, a machine that rotates wood. As the wood turns, a woodworker shapes it with a cutting tool, such as a scraper or a gouge and produces hand-made, one-of-a-kind objects. Historically, the functional wooden object has given way to the nonfunctional, conceptual object or sculpture incorporating turned wood. Today, the wood turning craft and artistry claims a place of high respect in the studio art world long enjoyed by glass and clay.
